Subsidy Removal: Kaduna Govt Reviews School Fees

The Kaduna state government has reviewed the school fees of indigenes in higher institutions in the State.

Addressing newsmen in Kaduna on Monday on “Review of current fees regime in Kaduna State tertiary institutions”, Governor Uba Sani said, “the extant fees regime in the State-owned tertiary institutions is burdensome and has led to a significant decline in student enrolments.

“The extant fees has made many students to either abandon the pursuit of tertiary education or move to alternative institutions.”

He stressed that to reverse the trend it became imperative that a competitive fees model should be adopted in the tertiary institutions.

He added that as a caring, responsive and responsible government, he had accepted the recommendations and accordingly reviewed the fees downwards as follows:

Kaduna State University – Current Fee: N150,000 to 30 per cent reduction, with the new fee of N105,000, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic,
current fee: N100,000 with a reduction of 50 per cent, making the new fee N50,000.

Others are College of Education, Gidan Waya, current fee: N75,000 with a reduction of 50 per cent, having the new fee: N37,500, Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences & Technology, Makarfi, HND Courses, current fee: N100,000, with a reduction of 30 per cent, making the new fee: N70,000, ND Courses with current fee: N75,000, now has a reduction of 30 per cent, new fee of N52,000 and Kaduna State College of Nursing has current fee of N100,000, now has a reduction of 30 per cent with the new fee now N70,000.

Governor Sani said the downward review of the extant fees regime aligned with the State government’s commitment to offer palliatives to cushion the effect of general rising cost of living.
