…as govt promises 20 New GRAs Under Omititun 2.0
The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Oyo State Branch, on Wednesday, inaugurated seven new executive members to steer its affairs for the next two years.
The body also honoured the Executive Governor of the state, Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde with merit award in recognition of Excellency’s excellent leadership, devoted service to humanity and creation of modern Oyo state and some professionals in the housing industry for their contributions to the association.
The state Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Olusegun Olayiwola, who received the award on behalf of the governor in Ibadan, disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde recognised the need to allow professionals to manage the affairs of each sector for the development of the state.
He emphasized the need for estate surveyors and valuers to work together to avert the reoccurrence of building collapse in the state.
The commissioner hinted that the housing industry has witnessed unprecedented development during the current dispensation, including the establishment of about Five Government Reserved Areas (GRA).
He noted that 20 new Government Reserved Areas would be established under Omituntun 2.0 as well as execution of other developmental projects if the governor is re-elected.
He described the award given to the governor has challenge to do more and further reposition the housing industry under Omituntun 2.0.
Olayiwola, while admonishing the new executives to strive and perform better than the immediate past administration, appealed to professionals in the housing industry to join hands with the government to further develop the state.
The Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Oyo State Branch, ESV (Pastor ) Oluseyi Adebayo, while delivering his acceptance speech, promised not to leave any stone unturned in the areas of public advocacy, professional research development, rejuvenation of head of practice and membership welfare.
He revealed that his administration will intensify efforts on membership drive and mentoring with a view to having about 50 Associates at the next associate induction.
The Guest Lecturer, TPL ( Dr) Kolawole Lawal, who spoke on ‘Urban Services Delivery and Management System in Nigeria: ‘The Challenges of Corporate Governance’ affirmed that there is wide gaps in between housing services and infrastructure available to Nigerians.
He attributed the deficit of housing and infrastructure in Nigeria to government structure and inability of local government to function as expected.
Kolawole, who advocated participation of citizens in budget preparation to aid provision of necessary infrastructure by government to various communities, advised the Oyo state government to redouble its effort in order to sustain its laudable projects.
The Chairman, Inauguration Ceremony, 2022/2024 Executives and New Year Party Planning Committee, ESV ( Pastor ) Olufisayo Ogunbiyi, in his address of welcome, appreciated members of the committee for their relentless efforts and sacrifices in ensuring the success of the event.
