The attention of the PDP Committee on Media Public Engagement has been drawn to the derogatory comment, credited to the Aide of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, Lere Olayinka, where he referred to leaders of our great party who called for the suspension of Ayodele Fayose from the party over anti-party activities “Almajiri Politicians”, saying that PDP of today is a party that should be going to people’s houses to beg them to return to active participation in the party.
Our response is important and inevitable to clear some misgivings in his statement.
It is important to say, without any ambiguity, that if there is anybody who should feel remorse for publicly working against the party, both at the state and National, Fayose should be the one. One would have expected a man who has made all he has under PDP to respect it rather than wreck it for his selfish interest.
It is shameful and unfortunate that Lere, who connived with his Fayose to work against the party in Ekiti and National now said the party lost political steam and those presently controlling it should begin the shedding of their garments of arrogance so that the party can be prevented from total collapse. Lere’s case is pathetic and needs urgent attention. We are aware that Lere is still in shock of his suspension, even as a candidate of the party during the last general election.
Fayose should ask his contemporaries in other states how they managed to produce Assembly members, Reps members, and other elective positions even while in the opposition. We are not unaware of how he stepped PDP candidates for the State Assembly down to negotiate with APC. How can a man who trades the future of the party with stipends be trusted with its leadership?
Lere should be told that Fayose has lost what remains for him politically in Ekiti state. Of what importance is a man who has consistently lost his Local Government since he left government in 2018? It is on record that Fayose lost his Local Government as a governor, and 2022 respectively. Apart from the monumental loss of membership of the party under his leadership, given his inept leadership, his son lost shamefully in the last election.
One would have expected Fayose’s praise singers to address the shameful and arrogant display of anti-party Fayose has been involved in since 2018, rather than insulting committed leaders who have been steadfast in providing leadership. Since Fayose has declared his support for his paymaster, Governor Oyebanji for another 4 years, what is his mission in the party?
We enjoin committed leaders of the party to be united against the character of Ayodele Fayose who only came to steal, kill, and destroy the party for his selfish interest as we await the National Working Committee of the party to approve his suspension going forward.
