Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has responded to the criticism which trailed his travelling to watch the US Open Women and Men’s Championship game, saying that he will continue to do things that will make him happy as an individual.

He stated this during the swearing-in ceremony for the new Commissioner for Health and Commissioner for Youth and Sports, urging them to properly assimilate the policy direction of his administration as captured in his roadmap for sustainable development and draw up deliverables that will benefit the people.

He said: “Well, a lot of people will like to shade me for watching 19-year-old Coco Gauff, who made history last weekend at the US Open Women and Men’s Championships. What stops Oyo State from producing our own Coco Gauff?

“And let me say to the people that because I am the governor does not mean I don’t have a life. I do have a life and I have been watching US Open almost as a family tradition for almost eight years before I came into this office.

“I own my social media and I can post whatever I like in there and people can post whatever they like on theirs too. If you are looking for news, go to CNN. And I will continue to do things that make me happy as an individual.”

At the event, He equally implored other members of the cabinet to align with the sustainable development pact with the people as a team.

Makinde tasked the commissioner for health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi to drive the vision of establishing a category 3 Primary Health Care (PHCs) across various wards, synergizing with the agency on a health insurance scheme to ensure qualitative health for all amongst other core mandates as health remains a major pillar of his administration.

He equally admonishes the Commissioner for youth and sport, Miss Wasilat Adegoke as the youngest member of the cabinet to brace up to the demands of her office without timidity, ensuring that youth development goes beyond sport but advancing interventions in technology and education for youths.

He added that his administration is set to commence the the second phase of development for Lekan Salami Sport complex Adamasingba.
