The House of Representatives has asked the Independent National Commission to remove dead and non-existing people from the voters’ register.
This decision was a sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved by Leke Abejide on Thursday.
Mr Abejide in his motion stated that some persons who were long dead had their names still displayed in the voters’ register.
He claimed that aside from “dead voters there are millions of fictitious voters who do not exist anywhere on this planet earth but have their names on INEC registered of voters.”
They resolved that INEC should develop a mechanism or software Application where families who lost their loved ones can report the demise of a particular PVC number so that it can be duly deleted from the INEC register, Polling unit, and Ward.
In addition, they also resolved whoever does not vote in two election cycles back to back, be deleted from the INEC register as a non-existing human being.
