The lawmaker representing the Ibadan South East/North East federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin, on Saturday, commended the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde, over his move to upgrade the Ibadan Airport, Alakia into an international airport.
Agboworin, who is the Chairman, Committee on Narcotic Drugs, in a statement made available to journalists by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mayowa Okekale, stated that the governor’s action reflects the import of determination and strong will that a leader must demonstrate to achieve success in governance.
According to him, Governor Makinde in the last five years has, once again, proven that he is on the path to rejig Oyo State’s economy through an expanded Ibadan Airport and other ongoing infrastructural projects the administration has put in place.
Speaking further, the lawmaker noted that the expansion of the Airport to international standard would not only increase economic activities but also increase tourism, create jobs for residents in the state, among other benefits.
He added that the project, upon completion, would also increase access to international markets for the state’s agricultural and mining products.
The statement read: “I like to commend my principal, Governor Makinde on his move to upgrade the Ibadan Airport into an international one. This has again proven that he has strong determination and strong will to achieve success in governance.
“Few reasons why the upgrade is important is because the international airport will increase economic activities in our state and makes it easier for people to travel in and out of Ibadan for business. The upgrade will also have the capacity to increase tourism in the state by making it easier for people to travel to Ibadan and explore the state.
“It will also create new jobs for our people and increase the investment because it will be easier for investors to travel to Ibadan.
“So, I will urge our people to continue to support the Governor and embrace his policies for the progress of our state.”
