FUEL CRISIS, NAIRA SCARCITY: Soldiers Storm UI To Quell Protest By Angry Nigerians

Protesters, on Monday morning, took to the gate of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, to express their dissatisfaction over the ongoing economic chaos in the country, particularly the scarcity of fuel and the new Naira notes.

Members of the community blocked the institution’s gate, thereby preventing vehicular movement and other activities.

A student, who does not want her name mentioned, told The PUNCH that as of the time of filing this report, soldiers and Operation Burst officers had arrived the scene.

Recall Nigerians have been faced with biting naira and fuel scarcity for weeks.

Last Friday, scores of customers of banks, took to major streets in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to protest the scarcity of new naira notes, which has been a subject of discussion across major towns and cities in Nigeria.

Many residents of the city have been lamenting over the paucity of money across many banks and Automated Teller Machine (ATM) stands. Even the Point of Sales (PoS) operators finds it difficult to access money.

This has rendered many of them redundant and many businesses have been rendered prostrate.
