Former Governor of Ogun State and the Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Gbenga Daniel, and the Secretary to the Government of Ogun State (SSG) Mr. Olatokunbo Talabi, are currently at war over allegations that the former governor was planning some booby traps to embarass the SSG.
Information made available to NewsBreakNaija by some top sources in the politics of Ogun State revealed that the senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, was said to have allegedly perfected plans to “crush” the political standing of the SSG.
A source said that Talabi, known for his forthrightness, discipline and intergrity, is considered a sitting target by political war lord like Daniel as a result of his towering status in the government of the state.
For instance, it was stated that the senator is convinced that the SSG is the brain behind his recent woes.
Also, sources privy to the plan told this newspaper that Daniel made the programme known to some of his cronies at a recent gathering. The issue was said to have started when Daniel became apprehensive of the growing profile of the SSG, especially when it was perceived that he may be eyeing the senatorial seat in 2027.
Several damning but spurious softsell publications were launched, sources said, adding that such publications were castigating the Governor Abiodun for allowing a “neophyte apolitical” person to will such power and influence in the state.
It was also said that some repreive came the way of Talabi when the dogs of war were called off when it was clear that the SSG was not in the race for the Senate seat.
However, now that open hostilities have resumed between Governor Abiodun and Gbenga Daniel as the aftermath of allegations of anti-party posture of OGD, the Senator is convinced that the SSG is the brain behind the onslaught on him.
The former governor of Ogun State was, therefore, said to have decided to amass weapons of propaganda and “take down” that political stature of Talabi because of the latter’s perceived rising influence in the politics and power structures in Ogun State.
According to the sources, Daniel believes that Talabi, a fellow kinsman from Ogun East senatorial district, is the brain behind the unmasking of his (Daniel’s) anti-party activities in the state, which have pitched him against Governor Dapo Abiodun and the party apparatchik.
“We will start to see sponsored articles and publications against the person of Tokunbo Talabi in the media,” our source said.
The people who should know also highlighted that the typical modus operandi of Daniel is not limited to media attacks but included petitions to law enforcement agencies on trumped up charges, ficticious accusations on gender assult/violations and finally physical assault of the targeted entity.
Our sources confirmed that the need to crush the SSG is now top priority for the embattled senator because of recent occurrences, one of which may not be unconnected to the treatment received by the senator during the visit of Mr. President.
Obersevers noted that the Senator was seen in an argument with the Awujale, the paramount ruler of Ijebuland. This almost resulted in the paramont ruler instructing Daniel to leave his residence. Daniel was said to have held on to the belief their efforts to gain good public image in the Senatorial District were being thwarted by the SSG, leading to the determination to “crush” the SSG’s growing political standing.
