Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, has described the spate of insecurity in the state as unfortunate which should concern well meaning citizens in the state, adding that kidnapping does not know party affiliations.

In a statement personally signed by him, the University Don decried the killing of Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunji Olusola; and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsola, while returning from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti on Monday by gunmen.

Another sad news was the kidnap of six school children, three teachers and a bus driver in Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State, where gunmen were said to have ambushed the school bus carrying pupils from a private nursery school back home at about 5 p.m.

According to the statement, the precarious situations have put Ekiti State in Southwest not just in the news but on local and international radars.

“All hands must be on deck to combat insecurity in Nigeria, most especially in our dear state by being on alert to report any strange movement and persons in our locals to the constituted authority.

“While the citizens and stakeholders of the state have a responsibility to continue to engage the vigilantes, the government holds the statutory responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of its people.

“I sympathize with our dear governor, Mr Abayomi Oyebanji, and the traditional leaders of our dear state and the good people of Imojo Ekiti and Esun Ekiti for the irreparable loss. This is shocking and terrifying news to us as concerned citizens and stakeholders in the state,” Eleka stated in the statement.

Calling on Federal and State governments to prioritize technology to fight insecurity and other vices, Eleka said intelligence gathering and quick response to information from the locals will help to nip insecurity in the bud going forward.
