The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-east Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, yesterday joined parents, guardians and children to celebrate this year Children’s Day celebration.
Children’s Day is celebrated on 27 May in Nigeria. It was established as a holiday in 1964. It is a day set aside to recognize and cherish children’s importance in our society.
Akintayo, who joined the children for this year children’s day celebration parade in Loyola College, hosted by private schools from the local government, said the children are the future leaders and backbone of the nation.
He emphasized the need for parents, guardians, and the government to provide a conducive environment for children to grow and develop their full potential.
Speaking further, the chairman sought further collaborative measures with the private school owners, stating that the local government is willing and ready to support them towards providing basic and conducive learning environment for the children.
“We recognize the importance of children in our society and are dedicated to ensuring their well-being and development,” the Chairman said, adding theat “we will continue to support initiatives that promote children’s rights and provide opportunities for them to thrive.”
The highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts and awards to outstanding children who have excelled in various fields, including academics, sports, and arts.
The children, who were visibly excited, expressed their gratitude to the local government for organizing the event and making them feel special.
The celebration ended with a call to action, urging parents, guardians, and the government to continue supporting children’s development and protecting their rights.
