In commemoration of this year’s Children’s Day, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East federal Constituency, in the House of Representatives, Rep. Abass Adigun, popularly known as Agboworin, has urged parents to prioritize the upbringing and training of their children.
The lawmaker, who is also the Chairman of House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, equally urged parents to use all available strength in educating their children properly, emphasizing the importance of raising and training them to become future leaders.
A statement signed by his Head of Media Unit, Mayowa Okekale, on Sunday, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, quoted Agboworin as reiterating his commitment to fulfilling his promise of a better education for the children.
While saying that the task of training up a child should not be left to the government alone, Agboworin admonished parents to ensure they play significant roles in shaping the future of their children.
The statement read, “As we celebrate the joy of this year’s Children’s Day, it is very important that we, as parents, must prioritize their upbringing and train every one of them properly.
“We are all aware that many children confront some challenges like lack of parental care, bad upbringing an other related abnormalities.
“Numerous schools lack proper infrastructure, including classrooms, furniture and learning materials. It is in view of this that, as a lawmaker, who appreciates education, I made provision for some of these needs in some schools in my federal constituency.
“I have not stopped and would not stop as I will continue to do my best to tackle these abnormalities in our schools. I will continue to commit resources to improve education infrastructure, empower teachers, and provide essential learning materials in my constituency.
“Currently, a free tutorial exercise is ongoing for SS2 and SS3 students in my constituency, to prepare them ahead for their JAMB Examination and make sure they come out in flying colours.
“All these are being done because I believe we owe our children a duty to ensure that their dreams and aspirations are realized through continuous training, guidance and mentoring.
“Therefore, I urge you, parents, to inculcate the right values in them, which will enable them shun all social vices. So, on this Children’s Day, let us unite in our dedication to creating a brighter future for every child in our state.
“Once again, Happy Children’s Day.”
