In a world where commitments often waver, there are individuals whose unwavering dedication shines brightly. Bro Gabriel and Sis Toyin Ogunronbi are shining examples, having devoted an impressive 40 and 30 years respectively as full-time workers in the Apostolic Faith Church.
Bro Gabriel’s path to full-time ministry in 1984 was defined by sacrifice and a profound sense of calling. He willingly left behind a successful career at the Daily Sketch newspaper, the Polytechnic of Ibadan, and even his newly established International German mechanic workshops to answer the call to serve full-time. His humility and commitment were evident as he led the Children Collectors, mechanic and transport session of the church for several years before being ordained as a pastor. He joined Usher in 1973 and was also AVS member, Sunday School Teacher, Accompanist in the choir and orchestra, and Instrument Teacher (French Horn).
Bro Gabriel’s dedication to his calling was truly remarkable. Despite being offered opportunities, one of which is to travel to Germany for an International scholarship training programme in mechanical engineering and another one was to obtain a red passport in the UK through a family member, he declined, prioritizing his Gospel work over personal gains. Even when you give him money, he will rather spend it on church projects.
Sis Toyin’s story is equally inspiring. Despite holding a lucrative position as one of the secretaries to the Federal Ministry of Justice in Ogun State, she chose to resign to properly care for her son, Tofunmi, at the urging of Baba Ogunnnaike, the then overseer of Apostolic Faith Church in Ibadan. She started a successful business supplying diesel(AGO) to factories at Ibadan and supplying pure water as a distributor before eventually joining her husband in full-time ministry in 1994. She was also AVS member, Sunday School Teacher, a member of the largest choir and orchestra-singing soprano, and Instrument Teacher (Violin).
Both Bro Gabriel and Sis Toyin were active members of the church choir. Bro Gabriel joined the senior choirsters in 1993, showcasing his skill with the French horn, while Sis Toyin’s journey from recorder to violin in the senior choir in 1977 highlighted her musical talent and dedication.
Their commitment to serving the Lord extended to their children. Bro Gabriel and Sis Toyin adopted Dupe Akinfenwa as their firstborn when she came to Ibadan and joined the choir as alto & violin player. Their first son, Gbotemi Joshua, started playing the flute at a young age and accompanied the Avs people on outreaches for many years. Tofunmi, their other son, followed in his father’s musical footsteps, choosing to play the French horn as one of the youngest senior choirsters and was among the pioneer youths leadership of Apostolic Faith Church in the Northern region.
Even though Bro Gabriel is a father figure to many, they are blessed to have many children apart from the three mentioned above.
After more than 40 years of service in the vineyard of God, Bro Gabriel and Sis Toyin retired last year as a pastor, but their passion for serving in the vineyard of the Lord remains undiminished. Their commitment to their faith, their family, and their community is a testament to the power of unwavering dedication and service.
Bro Gabriel was born on May 17, 1948, while Sis Toyin was born on May 17, 1956. As we celebrate their remarkable journey, let us be inspired by their example of faithfulness and service to others.
