The PDP – Young Generation Caucus has called for the suspension of Sen. Sam Anyanwu, the ousted National Secretary of the main opposition party.
The call by the pro-PDP group is in reaction to Anyanwu’s petition to security agencies not to give official recognition to the bona-fide National Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye.
The National Secretary of the PDP-Young Generation Caucus, Barr. Bashir Adama in a press statement made available to the media on Sunday condemned the action of the erstwhile national Secretary against the party.
It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal had removed Sam Anyanwu as the National scribe of the party in a declaratory judgement, while affirming Rt. Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP.
At the meeting of the PDP Governors Forum held in Asaba, the Delta State capital last week, governors of the party affirmed the judgement of the Court of Appeal and directed the PDP’s National Working Committee to obey and effect the resumption of Ude Okoye signalling the eventual removal of Sam Anyanwu from office in line with the Court of Appeal pronouncement.
However, Anyanwu in defiance to the Court of Appeal judgement and directive of the PDP Governors Forum immediately petitioned the DSS and other security agencies citing invitation to chaos.
According to the statement, “the action of Mr. Sam Anyanwu is condemnable; it is an affront to the decision of the Governors Forum and smacks of desperation on his part.
“He should be immediately suspended by the party. The party disciplinary committee under our respected leader, High Chief Tom Ikimi should look into the disrespectful action of Sam Anyanwu against the party,” the group said.
The group further queries the propriety of the action of Anyanwu saying: “ the issues against him are purely party matters. Why did he involve and petition security agencies?
“Moreover, he has appealed to the Supreme Court, why can’t he wait for the court to finally determine the matter on appeal?
Various sections of the party constitution provided for disciplinary action against any erring member(s) such as Sec 58(1)..(f,), 59..1(h) and 57(1).
“It is high time such impunity and political recklessness was checked in the PDP,” Bashir noted.
