As part of his efforts to improve educational outcomes in his constituency, the free tutorial organised for Senior Secondary School students by the lawmaker representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal constituency, has continued to attract positive comments from stakeholders.
The initiative, which is aimed towards providing supplementary education to students in their critical final years of secondary school, is preparing them for success in their upcoming West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams.
Interestingly, Agboworin is the only federal legislator, who has organised a free coaching programme such as this for students within his constituency, which he has been sponsoring since 2019 up to the present moment.
Agboworin, owing to the premium value he placed on education, constituted twelve teachers and two coordinators, who have been impacting knowledge in the students from Mondays to Fridays at 3pm to 5pm.
Presently, the exercise is ongoing at St’ Cyprian School, Oluyoro, Oke-Offa, Ibadan North East LG, while the location for the South East LG is being worked upon and would be ready as soon as possible.
Experienced teachers and subject matter experts have been employed to provide intensive lessons in core subjects like Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accounting, Commerce, Government, Literature and History with maximum of 30 students in a classroom.
Agboworin, while speaking on the rationale behind the programme, stated that: “Education is the bedrock of any society, and I see it as a point of duty and responsibility to ensure that our young students have access to quality learning opportunities.
“I will also say that this free coaching programme is my contribution to supporting the academic success of the students in my constituency. Having said this, I believe it will make a significant positive impact on their future.
“As you all may know, I am the only Federal Rep member, who has been organizing a programme like this for our SS2 and SS3 students all year round. We started the free coaching since year 2019 till 2023 but had a break because of the the electioneering activities in 2023. And now, we have started fully again from where we stopped.
“Presently, the free lesson already started this month in the North East but we are looking for another location in the South East, which I believe would be ready soon. As a matter of fact, I provide JAMB forms, scholarships and educational support for the students.
“In each location where this exercise is being held, there are 6 teachers with one coordinator, making a total of 12 teachers and 2 coordinators, who are also on my payroll on a monthly basis.
“This is not to show off but a gesture to ensure that these students, who are our future leaders in this constituency, are being given the requisite they need to become better individuals in life.
However, the programme has received widespread acclaim from teachers and students, who appreciate the lawmaker’s commitment to investing in the education and future of his constituents.
On his part, one of the teachers, Mrs Babalola Oke, who spoke on the development, commended the lawmaker for the gesture, especially the payment of JAMB fees, educational support and scholarships for the students.
She urged other lawmakers across the state to emulate Agboworin’s committment to education and progress of their various constituencies.
She said: “The free tutorial programme has been very interesting since we started and the turnout of the students has been encouraging. Because of the past record of Rep. Agboworin, the students are encouraged to put in their best.
“It is his culture to pay for the students’ JAMB examinations, give educational support and scholarships. And these current students, because of what they have heard about their seniors, have also been trying to ensure they do well too. There are over hundred of students participating in this exercise.
“Rep. Agboworin is really trying for the people and the underprivileged students. So, we wish him well in his political endeavours.”
Equally, some of the students, when interviewed, thanked the teachers for adding to their knowledge in the different subjects they are being taught, saying that they are better than their mates in other schools.
They also appreciated Rep. Agboworin for the support and value he is adding to their educational advancement, praying that God should give him the ability to sustain the initiative for upcoming students too.
For providing the support, Agboworin has demonstrated dedication to empowering the next generation of leaders and contributing to the betterment of his constituency.
