Gunmen, Tuesday, abducted two Reverend sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), Onitsha, Anambra state.
The Reverend sisters – Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli were abducted at evening time along Ufuma road, Ọrumba North Local Government Area (LGA) while returning from a meeting.
A statement by the Secretary General, IHM, Sister Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, explained that Sr. Nwankwo is the Principal of Archbishop Charles Heerey Memorial Model Secondary School Ufuma while Sr. Okoli is a teacher at Immaculate Girls Model Secondary School, Nnewi
“With sadness we write to inform the general public of the kidnap of our sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, yesterday evening, Tuesday 7th January, 2025. They were kidnapped along Ufuma road on their way back from their vocational association’s meeting at Ogboji.
“We commend our sisters to the powerful intersection of our blessed mother Mary for their speedy release from the hands of their kidnappers. We solicit your fervent prayers and supplications to God that they may be released as soon as possible and come back to us safe and sound. Pray also that they may be released unconditionally,” the statement added.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, said they have launched a joint operation to rescue the kidnapped sisters.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, had visited the scene of the incident for a spot assessment and assured that the command was working with some clues to arrest the suspects and rescue the victims.
