Members of the Oyo Atiba Solidarity Association comprising of distinguished Oyo indigines at home and in diaspora issues the following statements geared towards the peaceful resolutions of the present stalemate
.Since the matter is subjudice, the decision of the court should be awaited. Parties must respect the court.
.Due process in the selection must be followed.
.The process must be seen to be free and fair. A level-playing ground must be provided for all aspirants.
.The provision of the Alaafin Chieftaincy Declaration must be followed to the letter.
.We appeal to the government and the Oyo kingmakers, including the ruling houses that peace be allowed to prevail.
.We will be happy if every affair concerning Oyo town, including the selection of the new traditional ruler, enjoys some reasonable levels of peace devoid of crisis. This will be consistent with the saying ” ajisebi Oyo laari, Oyo kise bi enikan”. Meaning that Oyo people shows the way while others follow.
.That the office of the Alaafin as a foremost traditional ruler in Yoruba land should not be left vacant for too long.
.As patroitic indigines of Oyo town, we hope and look forward to the selection of the next Alaafin who will attract development, peace, and tranquility not only to Oyo town but also to the whole Yoruba kingdom.
.Thank you, and God bless everyone.
