The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, ‘The Sun Will Shine Again’ Group, in Ondo State, on Saturday, reacted to clandestine move by some unscrupulous elements within the party to cause unnecessary ripples in the state through imposition of candidates.
The group alleged that the move by the so-called element is aimed at foisting an unpopular and weak candidate on the Party by some leaders whose stock in trade is to sell the Party to opposition.
In a statement signed by the Coordinator of the group, Mr Rotimi Adejugbe, and made available to journalists in Ondo State, warned the political jobbers to desist from the dastardly act of imposing a candidate on the whole Party structure across the State.
The group, while maintaining that the gathering, which is scheduled to hold tomorrow at Okitipupa is at the behest of the so-called prominent Party leader from Okitipupa Constituency 2, who is famed for his betrayer and disloyalty whenever decisions went against him in the past, warned him not to drag his integrity in the mud.
The statement read in part, “The attention of the leadership of PDP The Sun Will Shine Again’ Group, has been drawn to a clandestine move by some unscrupulous elements within the Party to cause unnecessary ripples. This move is aimed at foisting an unpopular and weak candidate on the Party by some leaders whose stock in trade is to sell the Party to opposition.
“The proposed gathering in Okitipupa tomorrow, we have learnt, is at the behest of a prominent Party leader from Okitipupa Constituency 2 who is famed for his betrayer and disloyalty whenever decisions went against him in the past.
“We can confirm that he has, again, assembled his lieutenants who went out of the Party the last time to derail our chances in the last guber poll. Their plan is to circumvent the State Caucus by nominating a weak and unpopular aspirant from the Southern senatorial district with the sole aim to gaslighting the Party’s State Caucus.
“This move only gives credence to our fears that this particular leader is working to aid the election of his friend in the APC by either causing crisis within our Party thereby weaking our chances at the polls or to get his perfect alibi to defect after the primaries.
“While it is within their rights to endorse or support anyone, it is, however, wrong for these political charlatans to aim to impose on the whole Party structure across the State. It would have even made more sense had it been it were persons with proven integrity that were the champions of the cause.
“Let it be stated quite clearly that we will resist any untoward or sponsored endorsement by persons with questionable character and interests. The Party has a winning formula that it is following and we are primed for victory. We will protect the process irrespective of whose ox is gored.”
