The African Democratic Congress ADC has appointed the former Southwest Treasurer and House of Representatives Candidate representing Ijebu Central federal constituency in the 2023 general election, Abioro Itunu Temitayo, as the Chairman of the party informed Ogun State.

This was contained in a circular duly co-signed by the National Chairman of the party, Ralphs Okey Nwesu and National Secretary, Alhaji Said Baba Abdullahi, and sent to the INEC Chairman to notify the electoral commission.

Abioro, who was the former Ogun State chairman of now Defunct Young Democratic party YDP in 2019, was known to have helped stabilise a lot of other political parties in the state.

The party, which pride itself as the third biggest political party in Ogun state, with this appointment, has reposed faith in Abioro to lead a reconciliation charge across Ogun state to reposition the party.

Recall ADC secured three seats in the State House of Assembly and a federal House of Representatives seat while also scoring over one hundred thousand votes at the Governorship election.

The party, however, in 2023, though still recorded over 90,000 votes at the Governorship election, was not able to win any legislative seat both at state and federal levels.

In the build up to the 2027 general elections, political parties have started to restructure, develop and adopt strategies.

Abioro, in his remark, appreciated the leadership of the party on his new assignment, saying hard work will begin in earnest, with a view to repositioning the party.

While saying that reconciliation meetings will be held across the state, he urged every stakeholder to come back into the party to resolve all grieveances.

Abioro said: “Ahead of us is a very long road. I believe there are Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Elections; Local Government elections; new Congress to secure the structure of the Party; Party Primaries in 2026 to determine the flag bearers and the general election in 2027. With all these, we will be able to prepare ourselves ahead to deliberate and synergise on how best to address the current economic crises, which APC led government has put all the strata of our society into.”
