LG Poll: We’ll Give OYSIEC Necessary Support To Conduct Credible Election – Oyo Assembly Vows

The Oyo State House of Assembly has pledged to contribute positively to the success of the State’s Electoral Body in the forthcoming Local Government Councils Election in the state.


The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Emmanuel Akintunde, made the pledge on Wednesday during the on-the-spot assessment of the committee to the Headquarters of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Agodi Quarters, Ibadan.


Hon. Akintunde expressed the readiness of committee members to promptly attend to issues raised by OYSIEC and accord the commission legislative assistance to achieve its mandates at ease.

He assured that there will be no interference of any form from members of the assembly in the activities of the commission; hence, there is a need for OYSIEC to conduct elections that will be worthy of emulation.


Hon. Akintunde called on citizens and residents of the state not to exercise fear, but to endeavor to vote on election day.
” The on-the-spot assessment by the committee was to see how prepared your commission is for the forthcoming local Government elections.


” We appreciate your focus, tenacity, and passion in doing the job. It is important for the commission to put all machineries in motion and leave a legacy that will be worthy of emulation by other States Electoral Commissions because all eyes are on us being a pacesetter state” ” We have gone round, and the environment is habitable to have a credible election , residents should come out and vote on 27th April, 2024.

In his remarks, the OYSIEC Chairman, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN, said the commission is leaving no stone unturned to have an election that will be a model for other states.


Aare Olagunju explained that decisions taken so far by the commission conforms with the electoral acts, assuring that election materials would be delivered promptly across the polling units on election day.

He sought support of the assembly members on identified areas and amendment of OYSIEC law before the assembly to enhance improvement in the conduct of subsequent local government councils election in Oyo state.
