A Support group, Young Appointees for Seyi’s Re’election, YASR, has commended the decision of thousands of members from the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Zenith Labour Party, (ZLP), Alliance for Democracy (AD) and other political structures, who recently joined the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the state.
The group, while saying that the action of the defectors was a better political decision and well-though-out idea, noted that it was not at all surprised that the tremendous developmental projects undertaken in the nooks and crannies of the state by the Makinde-led administration, endeared them into the party.
A statement signed by the Coordinator of the group, Mr Deji Ola, described the defection as good step in the right direction, noting that the transformative agenda of the Governor must have triggered the decision.
The statement further added that the new members had taken a wise decision, having realised that the PDP-led administration is a party to beat and ready to continue to transform the state to what everyone would be proud of.
YASR reaffirmed that with the ongoing political efforts and support from different groups, the governor would, no doubt, win the forthcoming gubernatorial election, having fulfilled major parts of the promises he made during 2019 election.
The statement read in part:
“We are happy that thousands of members from major political parties in the country defected to the ruling party, PDP. This action, at its best, was a better political decision that would support the ambition of the governor
“We all know that the only way to reposition Oyo state to its deserving status is by joining Governor Seyi Makinde in his developmental strides, not only in words but in actions. Under the ruling party in Oyo State, no reasonable mind will deny the fact that we are all experiencing outstanding economic expansion, sports development, free qualitative education, growth in agricbusiness, infrastructural development, human capital development, just to mention a few.
“We can say that the new members have taken a wise decision, having realised that PDP-led administration is a party to beat and ready to continue to transform the state to what everyone would be proud of.
“So, with the ongoing efforts, we have the full assurance that our principal, Governor Seyi Makinde, would win the forthcoming gubernatorial election, having fulfilled major parts of the promises he made during 2019 election.”
The leaders included a former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, who also represented Oyo Central in the Senate, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, from the ADC, Pastor Akin Alamu who led the AD contingent, a former governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC, Mogaji Joseph Tegbe, former Chairman State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), under the last administration, Sheik Taofeek Akewugbagold, and the leader of the Liberation Alliance Movement and former Commissioner under the defunct ACN administration, Pastor Taiwo Otegbeye.
