•alleges former governor of sponsoring smear campaign against candidates
Ekiti Grassroots Movement, EGM, has accused former governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose of jeopardising the efforts of the party in the state to regain her leadership positions after losing the governorship election.
Former Publicity Director of the group, Mr Adebisi Adeola, in a statement personally signed on Tuesday, noted that Fayose’s stance on “South lokan” after the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the party’s candidate would have crashed the party, if there was no stiff resistance from well meaning stakeholders.
He noted that, at this point, PDP members across the state must take their destinies in their hands in 2023 and vote the PDP into power, against Fayose’s campaign of calumny, which is targeted at destroying the chances of the party.
Adebisi urged Nigerians to engage presidential candidates on issue-based campaign, with a view to assessing their programmes for the masses, rather than prioritizing frivolities.
He concluded that Fayose has turned the party to third fiddle in Ekiti, saying that no amount of blackmail will deter leaders of the party from putting the party on the right footing.
The statement read in part:
“The recent campaign of calumny against prominent leaders of the party from some misguided people should be noted by the top echelon of the party in Abuja because it is our believe that they have their ears in Ekiti and are aware of how Fayose strangulated the party’s structure before the election.
“What would have been the stake of our party in Ekiti if we had all agreed with the former Governor, Ayo Fayose, when he tweeted “South Lokan” after the shameful loss of the party at the governorship election?
“We have fought rigorously to sustain the ethos and principle of the party from going into shambles. We must appreciate the leadership of Distinguished Senator Olujimi, Prof Eleka, Hon Wale Aribisala, all the Zonal EXCOS as well as all relevant leaders of the party, who stood their ground against Fayose’s shenanigans in the party.
“Name any member of the party at the National that doesn’t have relations in Ekiti. We have zonal officers and BoT members in Ekiti, who were sidelined totally. We complained about Fayose’s one-man show, now they are blaming those who were carried along in the scheme of things.
“As we prepare for the campaign in Ekiti, we must put all interest behind us and work together to salvage the country from total collapse.”
